Years back in college, I learned about the difference between 'Managing' and 'Leading'.

Not unlike Management, LEADERSHIP is an OBSERVABLE, LEARNABLE set of PRACTICES. I believe one of the keys to Leadership is a kind heart and self-less attitude that can turn practice of these 10 Commitments of Leadership into natural talent.

1. You Search out challenging opportunities to change, grow, innovate, and improve.

2. You Experiment, take risks, and learn from mistakes.

3. You Envision an uplifting future.

4. You Enlist others in a common vision by appealing to their values, interests, hopes, and dreams.

5. You Encourage collaboration by promotions, cooperative goals, and building trust.

6. You Strengthen people by giving your power away, providing choice, assigning critical tasks, and offering visible support.

7. You Set the example by behaving in ways that are consistent with shared values.

8. You Achieve small winds and take step by step action that permits consistent progress and builds commitment.

9. You Recognize individual contributions to the success of every project.

10. You Celebrate team accomplishments regularly.

What an excellent site. A leader must never expect his followers to do things which he has not done. A good leader leads by examples. In other words he must be able to walk the talk.

My life experience has prepared me well for the leadership role.
