Is your small business prepared to deal with an emergency?
Did you know that, without a tested emergency plan, up to 86% of small and medium businesses will fail within three years of a major emergency? Since most small and medium businesses are physically located in a single location, they are more vulnerable than larger organizations to major disasters and catastrophic accidents.
The Canadian Centre for Emergency Preparedness has a tool to help your business develop its own emergency plan, that is Six Steps to Preparedness (link no longer valid). The tool includes downloadable templates, as well as an example emergency plan for a fictitious business. As a responsible business owner, you are also invited to encourage your employees (link no longer valid) to develop their own personal emergency plan at home.
